Licensed Psychologist and Certified Forensic Evaluator
My private practice is located in Eugene, Oregon. I conduct comprehensive forensic psychological and neuropsychological evaluations, including evaluations related to adjudicative competence, criminal responsibility, mental state at the time of the offense, and sentencing. I also provide psychological and neuropsychological consultation.
My primary professional interests are neuropsychology, psychosis, and substance-induced psychosis. I completed my PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2015 through the APA-accredited California School of Professional Psychology, at Alliant International University in Los Angeles, California. My doctoral dissertation involved an examination of formal thought disorder and other clinical and cognitive predictors of psychosocial functioning in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, and was completed under the mentorship of Deborah Levy, PhD, Robert Bilder, PhD, ABPP, and Carrie Bearden, PhD. This project was completed at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, where I also served as a research coordinator and clinical assessor on several National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-funded research projects between 2008 and 2014. Through my work at UCLA, and during my pre-doctoral externships and APA-accredited internship, I conducted culturally informed neuropsychological evaluations and provided evidence-based psychotherapy to adolescents and adults from under-resourced communities in Los Angeles. I also received specialized training in the assessment of prodromal and first episode psychosis.
I moved from Los Angeles to Eugene in the fall of 2015. After moving to Oregon, I worked at the Oregon State Hospital (OSH) in Junction City as a clinical psychologist and assessment specialist for just over six years. In this role, I provided complex differential diagnostic assessments and neuropsychological evaluations for the purposes of informing treatment and discharge planning, including addressing questions pertaining to continued jurisdiction of the Oregon Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB). At OSH, I also developed a cognitive remediation program for adults in the first episodes of psychosis and occasionally provided individual psychotherapy and student supervision.
From the fall of 2018 until the spring of 2022, I provided psychological and neuropsychological consultation and completed psychological and neuropsychological evaluations as an independent contractor with Western Clinical & Forensic Services.
In March of 2022, I established my own practice, Chelsea Gilbert, PhD PC. I consult with a board-certified neuropsychologist on all neuropsychological evaluations.
